It was the first British car to sell a million, and the first car ever assembled in Madras. Seventy-five years on, a good one is hard to find. This site is about the Minor's Indian story — and, when we have one, where you can buy a genuine example.
Why this site exists
Most people in India know the Ambassador. Far fewer know that the same British partnership which produced it also gave India the Morris Minor — sold here as the Baby Hindustan — and that the first car ever assembled in Madras was a Minor, driven out of Addison's plant on Smith Road on 15 November 1950.
morrisminor.in is run by Morris Minor enthusiasts in India. Between us we have spent decades running, repairing and arguing about these cars, and we have put what we know here — where they came from, what they are worth, what goes wrong, how the registration rules work and where to find parts — because there is nowhere else in the country that gathers it, and it is free to read.
One thing worth saying early, because it surprises people: the Minor is rare here now precisely because it was ordinary once. It was cheap family transport built in enormous numbers, so it was used until it was used up — and so it was engineered to be repaired cheaply by any competent garage. That combination, genuinely scarce and genuinely manageable, is unusual in old cars.

Every car listed here is set out in full — history, photographs and an honest account of its condition. At present there is one: a Morris Minor 1000 in Gurgaon, in the same family since 1999 and restored by a specialist who then looked after it throughout.
In one family since 1999. Meticulously restored, driven regularly for years and shown at the Statesman Vintage & Classic Car Rally in Delhi. Laid up for the last five to seven years and needing recommissioning — the body and interior are done.
